Australian Price

AR AU has stated that the AU price will not be announced until the launch later in the year/early 2014.

HOWEVER...the AU press reviews - including those from Italy at the press event - have stated a starting price of $75k + on roads up to $110k, depending on the spec. This leads me to think that AR want the press to "test the waters" re: price.

To break it down.

The LE is 60k = AUD$82k

removing the 20% VAT = 50k (AUD$72k)

So realistically we shouldn't expect to pay more than AUD$82k for the Launch Edition once GST and shipping are factored. Obviously we have to allow the "Australia Rip Off Tax", so add a little more.

What is the maximum AUD members would be willing to pay for a 4C? I love it passionately, but I wouldn't pay $110k.

Agree - can (probably) get it through the Finance Minister so long as it's under $100k in my driveway - but better still if <$90k in my drive. Once it gets over $100k going to be that much more difficult to justify vs other options.

(Might have to skip the car and see if I can be satisfied with the 4C-IFD bike instead!! But may need to diet to get the power to weight ratio down!)

As much as I love Alfa's, I'm certainly not going to be happy paying an exorbitant "Aussie Tax" just because Alfa/Fiat Oz think they can get away with it. And as for customer service and communication from AR here..... don't get me started!

More info. This from: http://www.ausmotive.com/2013/09/24/...m-au75000.html

The 4C has the potential to mix it with the exalted Porsche Cayman and for almost half the price. Of course the truth may bear some difference, but a $75K starting price was the word coming out of the 4C’s recent launch in Italy.

We asked Alfa Romeo’s Australian contact for a comment on the $75K rumour. Our question and the official reply can be read after the break.

AUSmotive: Are you able to confirm reports in Australian media that the 4C will be priced for the local market starting from $75,000?

Similarly can you provide comment on the pricing for the Launch Edition and the number of orders held for the Launch Edition and regular models?

Fiat Chrysler Group: Pricing for the 4C will be between $80–100K in Australia. Pricing is still not confirmed for our market. We expect the launch edition to be around $20K more than that—around $100–120K, but this is also still to be confirmed.

We currently have around 80 serious expressions of interest, but until production volumes for our market are confirmed, we will not accept any further orders.

and more from: http://www.caradvice.com.au/253045/alfa-romeo-4c-75000/

The company’s Australian representative had briefed journalists the night before the car’s unveiling, at the company’s test track in Balocco, northern Italy, to expect a price of between $80,000 and $100,000 for the base car, and $100k to $120k for the exclusive Launch Edition.

But during the presentation for the car, held in a stunning, purpose-built stadium that straddle the test track, Alfa head office announced the 4C would start at just $75,000.

The Australian PR representative, Karla Leach, was seen falling heavily from her seat.

If Merc can get their A45 out in Oz for ~$75k, and offering similar levels of performance, then one would hope Alfa Oz can stick to the Euro estimate of $75k landed here. Although I admit the Merc doesn't offer anywhere close to the same style and passion as Alfa, but it may be a worth replacement for my Golf GTi (and buy a 2nd hand Elise or similar for my "weekend coupe" needs)!

I think Merc are finally coming around to the fact that Australian's are tired of paying too much for cars. The A45 is a reflection of that. But unfortunately I'm not at the age where I want to be seen in a Merc

75k is emough

The last Alfa to sell at this price was the 164, I still have one, a great car, but I paid just 1k for it in new condition 10 heats after release. My thought is if Alfa try to get too high a price for the 4C it may lead to this kind of devaluation once more. Pricing is a science but I doubt whether there is any one in Alfa looking a decade ahead and I also doubt whether Alfa have the for thought to forward plan brand values.
