I'd sweat a lot more too if I were always driving on your home track. One of the reasons I can push so hard is that the facility where I normally drive is so safe. I'm spoiled!

Sounds like it would be fun to ride with you!
The car is unmodified. When entering slow corners, I usually use lift-throttle oversteer or (if I need it) trail-braking to get the rotation I want while also keeping momentum and minimum corner speeds up. The computer correctly sees this as the beginning of a "spin," it just doesn't know that I've done it on purpose and already had plans in place to stop it at the correct time by getting back on throttle. It dabs in some rear braking (kind of feels like bumps or vibrations in the rear) to straighten things out -- which frustrates me to no end! I trail brake fast corners as well, but since the rotation there is milder dynamic mode doesn't interfere.

Most people like riding with me because I'm having fun. Laughs are contagious.

If I'm on my home track in my Mazdaspeed3 I'll promptly turn off stability control every session because I can control the car much more predictably. The Mazda was also half the price of the 4C, so that plays into it. I also learned to hoon around this place in a car with zero nannies except ABS "back in the day," so I learned the hard way first I guess. All that being said I still don't trust myself to drive the 4C in Race mode on this track. Yes the Dynamic mode does interfere with my ability to control the car in a few crucial spots but I've learned to drive around them. At the end of the day it's a dangerous track with a very high average speed and big walls. Not sure I'll ever have the guts... which is why I'll do some safe, technical, flat tracks in Race mode instead!

Tracking season starting! Who is going?

Hey I asked this in another thread but no one ever answered or knew the answer.

Is it even possible to spin out in dynamic mode? Is anyone ever done it?

I understand you can go into a corner too fast but the way I understand it the traction control would force an understeer and you would just drive off course and it would keep you from spinning out pretty much no matter what bonehead maneuver you made.

The few times I've spun out was always in race mode. But I'm sure dynamic mode has saved me a few times.

I was just wondering what people thought?

If you're going to talk like Yoda speak like him:

There comes a point where the laws of physics outweigh the abilities of the car's electronics, and it is at this point you will most certainly need a change of underwear.

In students cars I've been when this point was exceeded. Into the wall we did go.

Even on this forum we've read of some who've spun their cars in dynamic on public roads. Especially simple to accomplish in the wet or on cold tires.

Ha! I learned in a Miata that was manual everything. No ABS even. That's still what I'm in for the most part.

I'd definitely dial it back a notch or ten if I ever took the 4C to a track with walls or rough terrain off-track. Not sure if I'd ever use Dynamic mode again though.

Fortunately, my wonderful facility lets me push nearly without penalties and what I've discovered is that the 4C is actually a forgiving and tossable car. I've gone 2 off a few times and 4 off once (straight in all cases). I have yet to spin it. When I overcook rotation, it recovers easily.

Everyone is invited! Motorsports Ranch in Cresson, TX. You've probably seen it on Fast n' Loud or other TV shows. Formula Mazda factory and several race teams are there. Everybody likes to test there because it has several configurations with a variety of turns and elevation changes and is super-safe.

OH yes, it is absolutely possible to spin in "Dynamic" mode. I did it about 3 times last track day, but it was very wet when I did it. I was able to catch a few more near spins mostly due to dynamic mode stability controls kicking in.

Well still sounds like only if with cold tires or on wet pavement is it possible to spin out in Dynamic mode.

This along with the fact that you can drive really hard and fast in Dynamic mode it's a real compliment to the engineering on this car.

And I would guess that for a professional driver, the lap time differences between dynamic and race mode would be not much but that race mode would definitely be faster for a professional driver.

But for us mere mortals the lap time difference between the two modes would be very little. And I think dynamic mode often would be faster than race mode until the driver skills get very good.

But it sounds like Hornetball is quite confident in race mode. It would be interesting for him to compare his lap times between dynamic and race modes pushing it equally hard?

My personal goal is to be able to drive very hard in the race mode yet stay in complete relaxed control and to match or beat my times in dynamic mode.

And of course not total my car in the learning process. That is a goal that's up there near the top.
